Artist's Bio

Born and raised in Arizona, Cindy hails from a long line of old Arizona cusses. Her mother and dad still ranch in Wagoner, Arizona, which is between Wickenburg and Prescott.
Cindy completed her B.A. at Arizona State University, and her M.A. at California State University-Northridge. She began working as an art therapist, and then an elementary school
teacher where she also coordinated a fine arts program for the school and
community. She was a BRAVO arts award finalist and nominee, teacher of the year, and was honored before the state legislature for her leadership in the arts. Later she began teaching art at the middle school and high school levels, where she was the district’s teacher of the year. Currently, she is in her fifteenth year teaching painting and drawing at the
community college, and is the fine arts department chair for Valencia High School, where she teaches Ceramics, 3D, AP Studio Art, and is the National Art Honor Society Advisor.  Making art, teaching art, and writing poetry are where she devotes most of her time.
Cindy is married to Chuck Pharis who has been in the television industry with ABC Studios for over thirty years. Chuck is an avid photographer and the two
have traveled to Northern Ireland, England, south of the Arctic Circle, the Natchez Trace, the Appalachians, the world’s oldest bluegrass festival, and many other places. Chuck has made many films and shows, and every now and then Cindy goes on location with him. While Cindy is painting, drawing, sculpting, or writing, Chuck is working on his vintage television camera collection.
Both of their daughters, Lydiann and Audra, are creative. Both are currently in grad school; one in chemistry, and the other in law. Much of Cindy’s writing and painting are about situations and moments surrounding their lives. Very

supportive of her work, both girls find it interesting to be raised by a mother who is an artist.
Chuck and Cindy were married in

the late nineties, and Cindy gained three amazing stepchildren, Jenny, Sarah, and Charlie, and a wonderful friendship with their mum, Louise. Jenny is currently studying photography at a university in England, and Sarah and Charlie are completing secondary school.

Guarding her studio are her three loyal canines, Nellie, the border collie, Brutie, the stray who jumped on her car and wouldn’t get off, and Bone, the stray Audra and Cindy found out in the desert. To keep the dogs working properly, they are overseen by Puss, the queen of cats, and Dandy-Lion, our blueblood.
